What Is A Health Coach?
So you have a craving for soda and you don’t know why. You know it’s not good for you. You know there is not any nutritional value from it. But you just have to have it. Your doctor even advises you to cut down on it – the empty calories and unnecessary sugar have you gaining weight – but is that doctor going to support you in eliminating that craving? Probably not.
Enter the Health Coach.
A Health Coach isn’t going to physically take that next glass of soda out of your hand, but s/he will guide you in the right direction so you don’t pick it up in the first place. A Health Coach will work with you to figure out why it is you crave that soda so badly to begin with, and then help develop a strategy to change that habit in a positive way.
Health coaching works because it focuses on mind, body and soul to help clients make changes to support a healthier lifestyle. And that doesn’t necessarily mean only by increasing your intake of greens and lean proteins and decreasing the amount of processed foods that are consumed. It means looking at the whole person to understand behaviors and balancing what’s on the plate with life food such as relationships, career and hobbies, and then recognizing that one feeds the other.
Doctors certainly have a place in the world, but spending a full hour with you on a regular basis to explore behaviors and work on self improvement just isn’t going to happen. But it will with a Health Coach. Because a Health Coach is like a trusted advisor by your side to hold your hand when it’s needed, cheer you on and help make you the best person you can be.
